What are you doing for Thanksgiving? Do you have any traditions? Go in to detail about your plans for the 5 day weekend.

Every year I go to my grandfather's house to chow down on some 5 star dishes!  Also afterwards I might head out to black Friday. At my grandfather's we ride four wheelers and cruise around on the 10 acre land. A lot of history goes into that place, where he grew up and where my parents grew up. But besides Thanksgiving and black Friday, I'll just be hanging out with friends and enjoying my time off. Probably get fat or something.

Go out and look up a what all goes on a resume website. What can you find? Include an example image if possible.

A website resume has key sayings in their website saying what they've accomplished in their work life and such. Like for an example, from the image below, Hank Finke has his "Key Achievements" that he has done throughout his work life. He also has people saying great things about him on his home page! Also he includes in the navigation bar: Overview, Key Achievements, Skills,  and Professional Experience.

Consider the quote below. What exactly do you think it means and how does it relate to Web Design?

With web design, you can create what it looks like, but most of the work goes into how the website works. I mean we're constantly coding things to pop out or create some animation when you put your mouse over it. That takes a lot of skill to accomplish that and it turns out looking great. But the art is how it works, how you coded a page just to make that one thing tic. That's the actually beauty in that, not the looks or the feels, the inside is an art. Like for an example, a well-functioning website is really neat to look at, but let me tell you, it probably took a couple months.

User Experience-the overall experience of a person using a product such as a website or computer application, especially in terms of how easy or pleasing it is to use.

Reflect on your learning this semester so far in this class. Think about the first day you walked in to this room until right now. What have you learned about Web Design? What have you learned beyond Web Design? Explain yourself.

When I first walked into this class and started learning about the different code, it felt like I was learning a new language at first. All the "<>" and such really had me interested, but very confused. And I really didn't even know anything about HTML, because, I was looking forward to learning about CSS. At the time I didn't know that you had to know HTML before trying to attempt CSS. I've learned how to code a pretty neat website, all thanks to this awesome class. And the knowledge I've learned will help me solve any issues with websites in the future.

Tell me about your weekend.

This weekend was Halloween weekend! I spent most of my Halloween at school sitting at the edge of my seat bored out of my mind, until school finally ended. I had to scavenge some costume pieces out of  my  basement. It turned out pretty good: I was an old Asian pimp guy. I then went to my friends party, it was pretty fun, except the part where my friend accidentally beamed a hard piece of candy at the back of my head. Then the rest of the weekend I spent at home watching movies and sports games.

Tell me about your weekend. Share pics!

Just a normal weekend, nothing too special. On Friday I just chilled at home, tired from the long, exhausting week. On Saturday I worked at my grandfather's farm and made 100 bucks! Pretty good job for a 14 year old if you ask me. My family created Sunday into "family day" so we went to the pumpkin patch and stuff. My dad and I watched the Chiefs game, and man, was that close! We won 23-20!! GO CHIEFS!

What kind of background do you have with Photoshop? Have you used it before? What other types of design and editing software have you used before? Explain.

During middle school, our computer teacher taught us a lot about Photoshop. But, of course, I probably forgot all of it by now, I mean, that was in 7th grade. I have used it before, and I've found it pretty awesome to mess around with. I have also used Sony Vegas; which is very confusing to use. But after getting used to it, you get the hang of it. We used Sony Vegas to create movies, then we presented it to the class.

Below is a letter written to the editor who wrote the article 'Enforcement of dress code creates negative effect' that your blogged about last week. Most of you wrote on your blog that you agreed with the writer. What are your thoughts after reading the letter below and seeing a different perspective. Are they the same? Are the different? Do you agree? Disagree? Explain yourself.
I agree, the author does really need to see both perspectives. My feelings are a little different towards the situation. I think you should be able to wear a lot of things, but you also have to understand that some of the clothes can be quite "showing." I do agree with this article, but maybe the rule should ease off just a little bit. I mean, nothing to extreme, it's just if clothes are negatively affecting students due to clothe restrictions, that results in poor school effort. So my overall summary on this situation is that there should be some limitations, but nothing like showing a lot.

The perfect curriculum would be all my hardest classes earlier in the day like Algebra 1, French, Biology, etc. I would like to have Study Hall around lunch time so I could leave and go to lunch. To prepare me for life, I would just try to create good study habits so it can help me in college. I would like to be studying harder versions of my classes Junior and Senior year so I could build up a really good resume for college.

Blog Post of the Day:
What is an infographic? If you don't know, go look it up. Read about it and then in your own words tell me what an infographic is. What do infographics do? How do they work? What makes a really good infographic?

They're like graphs that inform you about world problems or that tells you a path to choose something. They display graphs with images, like if you wanted to know how much oil each country uses, you can see the percentage of oil above each country. A really good infographic displays beautiful images that stick with the mind. If you do an infographic over something very interesting, it will stick with people.

Blog Post of the Day:
Tell me about your Homecoming weekend! If you didn't participate in the Homecoming festivities, what did you do? Share pics!

This weekend was pretty fun! After the long week, I caught a ride with my friend; Will, and we went to the Homecoming game this Friday. After we walked to Walmart, where we cruised around in the electronic-riding chairs with the basket. On Saturday, I had to work at my grandfathers where I put in 8 hours of doing farm work. On Sunday, it was really lazy. Probably the most relaxing Sunday in a very long time.  After all my weekend was pretty fun.

How was your weekend? Did you do anything exciting? Share photos!

After the long, tiring, and exhausting weekend I went over to a friends house after football and we went to Walmart, played some Destiny, and walked around in the wilderness at 11 during the night. On Saturday I went to my sister's soccer game and went with my family to touch a truck. Let me just say, it was pretty weird. On Sunday I went to church, then I was at home watching the football games all day. So after all, not really much happened this weekend, just a relaxing couple of days.

Blog Post of the Day:
Now that you are several weeks in to this class and have coded one (super small) website, what do you think? What are your thoughts on web design? Is it what you thought it would be? Is it better? Worse? What's your favorite part? What's your least favorite part? Explain.

I think it's fun, but a little confusing for me. I generally like web design so far, but I feel like I struggle at times when I'm continuing in this class. Yes, it is what I thought it was going to be, I obviously knew about codes before, but it does seem a lot harder than I thought it was going to be.  I think it's better than I thought it was going to be. My favorite part is using css mixed in with the html codes, I found that cool. My least favorite part is going to try to understand how my stylesheet.css corresponds with my 6 html pages.

What is the importance of deadlines? How do high school deadlines reflect or simulate "real world" experience? Give an example of when you met or or didn't meet a deadline that was important.

Deadlines with tests, projects, etc. is very important. These deadlines reflect off the real world by when you work at a office or job you are required to finish your assignment by a deadline. If you don't meet the deadline, that means you risk losing your job or possibly getting fired. One time I did a science project and I didn't meet the time I needed it to be done. I lost points after turning it in late, and I ended up getting a "not-so-great" grade. The next day I was grounded by my parents. I think it's great high school has deadlines, because it helps us prepare for the real world.

This quote means if you prepare for what you're doing, you'll fail during that one thing when the time comes. I really like this quote, because it's actually true. When I don't prepare well enough at something, I will fail, and it's happened before. Last year during the end of eight grade we had a big science test coming up. I thought I had it in the bag; however, I was wrong. I ended up not studying and I got a huge fat F on the test. Since I failed that, I had to work at a project to get my grade up. I prepared for the project and got a 100% on it and extra credit. This quote does mean a lot, and it's true.

What did you do this weekend? Share pictures if you have them!

I visited my aunt over the weekend and spent the night. I hung out with my family over at her house and I had a blast! On Saturday we just relaxed and slept all day, and on Sunday I was glued to the T.V. watching all my NFL games, and let me tell you, I almost cried when the Chiefs lost. All together my weekend was pretty fun, but kinda dreading to come back to school. I'll be anticipating the K-State game this Thursday against Auburn. Go cats!

Below is one of my favorite quotes that I found on Pinterest. Think read and think about what this says and then blog about it. What does this quote mean to you? Elaborate! Feel free to give an example of tell a story.

The story is saying how you should NEVER say you're bored. Because the world you live in is so vast and big you really can't say you're bored, because there is so much to do, not to sit around and say you're bored. You can even imagine things to entertain yourself because your mind is endless. It says "The fact you are alive is amazing.." so you can't say you're bored at life, because you should be greatful to even be alive; to explore this vast world we live in.

This quote makes me want to do something, not just sit around and wake up, eat, go to school, and sleep every day. I want to explore the world, not live in it. I want to live a fun and great life, not sit at a office desk my whole life.

How do you express your creativity? Explain.

I express my creativity by drawing on paper. I can just image all of these images I want to draw, and I just let it flow! Drawing is really soothing for me, I can just start doing it for countless hours in a peaceful environment. I usually express my creativity on landscape and cartoon like figures. Drawing can be an escape zone for me, I love it!

What did you do this weekend? Share pictures if you have them!

After the long, exhausting, and stressful week, I went to the Blue Valley High School game up in Shawnee, we won 29-0! We pretty much crushed them, but our football team is really good. I got to bed around 2 a.m. from a friends house, I had to wake up early and attend a wedding downtown. It was really tiring and boring, but the food was fantastic! After the weddings I went to my friends house. I woke up the next day feeling sick, which was a bummer. But, my dad and I watched NFL all day, so it was a pretty awesome.

Tell me about what you have learned in this class so far. Have you learned a lot? Do you want to learn more? What do you want to be able to do by the end of the semester?

What I've learned in this class so far is how to set up a website with pages in Note pad ++. We've been learning how to code pictures, lists, paragraphs, and more! We even know how to change the font size, and color. Yes, I would love to learn more, especially CSS!! I'm mostly excited for CSS, but I know I got to learn the "bones" of coding, which is HTML. By the end of the semester, I would like to be able to create an awesome looking website. Not just a dull, colorless, piece of trash, a wonderful, colorful, piece of artwork.

Tell me all about your Labor Day weekend. What did you do? Include photos!

During the Labor Day weekend I was icing and taking Advil every 4 hours! Why? Well, I was in pain from my akeeles injury (back of the foot) that happened during football. I'm pretty sure I got injured there because this summer I really didn't do any hardcore-workouts, because I was on vacation a lot. And shooting into football like that; my muscles weren't prepared for that. Aside from that, I went to my mom's friend's 40th birthday party (she forced me to go), it was okay, the best part was the food and the K-State game. Sunday I just hung out with friends and slept over at a buddies's house. And monday, I worked for my grandpa and made 40 bucks!

All together, it wasn't to bad!

Read this small newspaper clipping and then write a blog post about it. What are your thoughts? How does it make you feel? Do you agree? Disagree? Explain yourself.

It kind of motivates you to do something, but it makes me feel like I "cry." I honestly don't agree with this article; I know this person wants us teenagers to do good things in the world, but calling us cry-babies is fairly rude. It's not like we literally sit on the couch and moan on what to do in life, let the teens explore their answer for themselves. Some may do great things, some may do bad things, but you can't just call out all the teenagers in the world for this. I mean wasn't he/she a teenager once as well? I do find this writing motivational though, and there are good things about it. Here's my major "pet peve" this person said: "get out of your dream world" That's not fair to say at all. Dreams inspire and motivate us to do what we want, we live in America! We must follow our dreams!

Tell me if you agree with this statement and then explain why or why not. "Images on the internet are 'free game' - if someone posted it, I should be able to use it."

There should be some limitations to this situation. Like if you're using the picture for a class-related project, or showing your friend it, then I think it would be fine. However, if you use the image in a public presentation and take the credit for the image, then it's not okay. Unless the owner/creator of the picture says its okay, then you are ready to go. Also make sure there is no copyright on the picture, because you could get fined for using that picture that someone has copyrighted.

Tell me a little bit about yourself and your life here at BVHS. What activities or clubs are you involved in? What year are you in school? What is your favorite class and/or teacher so far this year? What are you looking forward to this school year? Include some original photos from your phone if you can.

Hello, my name is Jayden Rutler, I'm a former freshman at this school and we're kinda treated like we're the bottom of the food chain because we're freshman. I'm currently involved with the football team (freshman) this year, and it's awesome! 2014 baby! Pretty excited for this year, and all the surprises to come along with it. I love Entrepreneurship, the teacher's awesome, and the class is really fun.

Monday, August 25th

What do you know about Web Design right now? What did you know about Web Design before you walked in to this class? Tell me as much as you can about how web pages work. Try to use an example if possible.

I walked into this class wanting to know how to create awesome websites, and learn how "coding" works. I imagined coding would be simple, and let me tell you, it isn't! My main goal was to learn how to create a cool looking website, because I have a lot of ideas in mind of what to do with this skill. I've had very little experience with the making of websites, I started to get familiar with the HTML code when I was using this program called "enjin" to create some unique looking websites. Here's what I know about web pages so far; how you enter a title in the tab menu, how you can create text and titles explaining something on the website, how you can insert pictures, and you can insert links within pictures! To create a title on the webpage, you have to do this:

[Title] <Text name here> [/Title]

This is just a little bit of knowledge I have learned from Code Academy! I can't wait to venture into the world of coding, and learn its language.
